1 Second of animation

leeping off from the previous month of animation experimentation, I decided to try using the same technique but with amore recognizable form. The obvious choice was Noodle Bear's face. I modified and exaggerated his silhouette slightly so it would read more clearly with all of the detail inside of every frame.
Just like the previous "blobimation" i started by sketching out the animation loosely. Unlike the previous animation i didn't color in the blobs all at once. I wasn't doing the rainbow effect so this didn't require as much pre-planning, but I was alittle nervous about how coherent the final product might appear.

For the rest of the project I just improvised illustration within each blob shape until I covered the whole area. I made some attempt to keep the forms in the eyeball area somewhat cohesive by placing large circular design elements there, like donuts and camera lenses.
My main goal was to just go all out on detail so the final product would be as crazy as possible. Over the course month I drew hundreds of characters and objects, filling every nook and cranny of the silhouette.

I also liked the idea that every frame of the animation would be a work of art in it's own right. The inverse of early cel animation, where each in-btween animation was meant to be discarded after the animation was photographed, with zero intention of becoming sought after collector items decades later.
The final animation came together better than I expected. Each frame ended up being its own little world of characters and objects, all contained within Noodle Bear's familiar silhouette. Looking back, I'm glad I didn't plan too much and just let myself get lost in the details. It was a fun challenge to see how much I could pack into each drawing while still maintaining the overall shape needed for the animation. In the end, this project was just about having fun with drawing and seeing what happens when you combine a ton of detailed illustrations into a second of movement. Maybe next time I'll try something even weirder.
